BabyLog

Hardartcore built the BabyLog app as a free app with an optional paid Premium plan, and with no ads. This page explains what data the app handles, where it is kept, who can see it, and how you can delete it.

Information you enter

BabyLog stores what you log about your baby: their name and profile, feeds, naps, diapers, growth measurements, teeth, medications and doctor appointments. This information is stored on your device.

Your account

When you create an account, your email address and password are sent to the BabyLog server. Your password is stored only as a secure hash, never in readable form. Your email address is used to sign you in and to send you a password reset code when you ask for one. I do not send marketing emails.

Without Premium, your baby's data stays on your phone

On the free plan, the information you log about your baby is not uploaded anywhere. It stays on your device.

With Premium: backup and sync

With Premium, the babies you own and everything logged for them are uploaded to the BabyLog server, so they are backed up and synced between your devices and the caregivers you invite. The same applies to a baby that someone with Premium has shared with you. Data is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and the server only gives a baby's data to its owner and to the caregivers the owner invited.

If your Premium plan ends, your data stops syncing. The synced data of the babies you own is deleted from the server 6 months after your Premium plan ended; your account is kept.

Sharing with caregivers

When you invite someone with an invite code, they can see and add to everything logged for that baby. Caregivers can leave a shared baby at any time.

Purchases

Premium is bought through Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Google; I never see your payment details. The app sends the purchase receipt to the BabyLog server, which checks it with Google Play to turn Premium on for your account. Google's handling of your purchase is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.

What the app does not do

  • No ads and no advertising identifiers.
  • No analytics or third-party tracking.
  • Your data is never sold, or shared with anyone other than the caregivers you invite.

Service providers

  • Google Play: app distribution and purchases.
  • Railway: hosts the BabyLog server and its database.
  • An email delivery service: sends password reset codes.

Permissions

  • Internet and network state: for your account, backup and sync.
  • Notifications and foreground services: to show the running nursing and sleep timers, and appointment reminders.
  • Run at startup: to restore your appointment reminders after the phone restarts.

Deleting your data

  • Delete your account in the app. The account is scheduled for deletion and you have 7 days to change your mind; after that, your account, your babies with everything logged for them, your caregiver memberships and your purchase records are permanently deleted from the server.
  • Deleting a baby you own deletes it and everything logged for it, for you and for its caregivers.
  • Uninstalling the app deletes everything stored on your device.

Children's privacy

BabyLog is meant for parents and caregivers, not for children. The information about a baby is entered by their parent or caregiver, who controls it and can delete it at any time. I do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
